Charles II the Bad

   king of Navarre
   Charles II the Bad, king of Navarre (1349-87), was the son of jeanne II of Navarre and the grandson of louis x, king of France. Through his grandfather, he was a pretender to the French throne. He supported the revolt of étienne marcel during the reign of jean II the good and allied himself with England (1358). Charles II of Navarre helped to repress the jacquerie and was defeated by bertrand du guesclin at Cocherel, near Evreux (1364), but then would no longer be involved in French affairs.
